Easter Week in Belize

The Holy Saturday Cross Country Cycling Race is held every year starting in San Ignacio Town and ending in Belize City. Belizeans love cycling, which is why this 140 km cycling race is one of their favourite events. The race became traditional because people had to cycle during the colonial days to watch cricket and football matches. In the villages and towns through which the bikers pass, fairs and dances are also often held. On Easter Monday, things start to slow down. However, the Burrel Boom Fair is held not far from Belize City. It has horse racing in addition to the usual fair food, rides and exhibitions. There are also a few othsmall fairs scattered throughout Belize that take place on Easter Monday.
