• Day 1 : Immediate boarding for Lamanaï

When you arrive at Belize City International airport, you will be welcomed by someone from the BELIZEAN TRAVEL team who will give you your guide book.

A driver will be waiting for you to drive you to Lamanaï.  After reaching the New River in a van, you will go down the river. You will discover your first jungle landscapes during this 1.5 hr trip that will take you to your lodge nestled in the middle of the forest.

After dinner, you will embark in a boat for a night safari. This captivating adventure will offer you the possibility to encounter, if you are lucky, a crocodile or a jaguar (the ultimate nocturnal animal). Then, you will have a night walk through the tropical forest to familiarize yourself with the jungle’s sounds.

• Day 2 : Visit to the ruins of Lamanai

After breakfast, After breakfast, we will take you on an excursion into the jungle to discover the rich history of the Mayan culture.  Visit the archeological site of Lamanai (Mayan for “submerged crocodile”) which houses remarkable ancient structures. The ruins of Lamanai are buried in the middle of a wild vegetation, where exceptional fauna and flora dominate.

Discover the famous Jaguar Temple (climb to the top of the high temple to enjoy a 360° view of the surrounding jungle).This visit is accompanied by the discovery of a 19th century sugar mill and the ruins of two 16th century Catholic churches that were burned by the Mayans.

Enjoy the afternoon at leisure to relax at the intimate award-winning lodge on the shores of a secluded lake.

• Day 3 : En route to San Ignacio

It’s time to leave your hotel to continue your trip towards San Ignacio in the Cayo District. A driver will take you to Belize City where you will get the keys to your vehicle : a Jeep Patriot.

The trip will last 2 hours.

Before you arrive there : treat yourself with a great family-friendly outing that is both amusing and educational at the Belize Zoo; children are going to love it!! The zoo has more than 175 animals and approximately 45 species native from Belize.

San Ignacio is a pleasant city where you can wander among the colorful houses and take advantage of every moment to take photos.

• Day 4 : Barton Creek Cave & Excursion to the Mayan Ruin of Xunantunich

After breakfast, you will explore the Cayo area by going to Barton Creek Cave (1 hour from San Ignacio). A cave whose entrance to the Mayan underworld is only accessible by canoe. There, on board of canoes and provided with torches, you will leave in the heart of a peaceful and ancient kingdom to the discovery of the sacred history of this cavity or many Mayan relics which are still very present.

Possibility of picnic on the spot

Then, in the afternoon you will go to the archaeological site of Xunantunich (30mn from San Ignacio). To reach it you will have to cross the Mopan river on board of a 19th century ferry still activated with the crank. The ruins are perched on one of the highest plateaus in the region. The largest temple of this site, “el Castillo”, offers a panoramic view on the surroundings of Cayo District and on Guatemala.

Optional: On the way back, at the time of the Sunset, you will be able to live an authentic Mayan experience: you will rub shoulders with a Mayan local in his habitat and will discover his craft work.

• Day 5 : The Actun Tunichil Muknal ‘ATM’ cave

After your breakfast, you will leave for the day for the ATM site. You will have to cross three rivers before you reach the caves.

Then, swimming, climbing and hiking will be necessary. This several kilometers-long cave harbors offerings in the shape of potteries and human remains of the 9th century. Beware; being in good physical condition is absolutely necessary for this visit.

You will return around 3 to 4 PM and have free time to discover the city center in San Ignacio.

• Day 6: Relaxation day: Butterfly farm & walk and swim in the Rio On Pools and the Río Frío cave

After breakfast, pack up your picnic for lunch and leave for the forest reserve of Mountain Pine Ridge. Mid-way: you will stop at the Green Hills Butterfly Ranch, a fantastic butterfly farm to visit with your family. More than 90 species of butterflies are observable there.

We will continue our trip to Rio Frio cave.

It is easily accessible and you will walk for about 10 minutes to reach it.

It is a place that abounds with natural treasures.

A great opportunity to swim in the middle of the waterfalls.

• Day 7 : Heading to the islands

After your breakfast, you will leave for Belize City (2 hours by the road). You will hand over the keys to your car and embark in a watertaxi for Ambergris Caye (‘La Isla Bonita’).

During your trip by boat, you will perhaps be lucky enough to see dolphins and turtles.

• Day 8 : Excursion in Hol Chan reserve

In the morning, departure for the barrier reef where you will swim near turtles, parrot fish and nurse shark during a snorkeling session.

Located 6 km to the south of Ambergris Caye’s shores, the most popular area is called Hol Chan and is a real aquarium in the open air.

Then you will go to the Shark Ray Alley reserve where nurse sharks and pelagic stingrays abound.

Then, return to the island and have a free afternoon to discover shopping streets and the market in the city center or simply enjoy the pool.

At nighttime, we suggest you taste authentic and traditional Belizean cuisine in a casual and welcoming environment. A table is waiting for you in one of the best restaurants in the city.

• Day 9 : Free time to Caye Caulker

Caye Caulker is small in size but great when it comes to landscapes.

It’s a short 25 min trip by watertaxi before you will be able to step on the island.

Here, no paved roads but small sand alleys you can wander by foot or bike.  Having a walk in the charming village of Caye Caulker is being transported back to the era of the pirates of the Caribbean. Colorful wooden houses, outdoor restaurants and bars, dolce vita and resting in a hammock near the water will be activities to be enjoyed by everyone.

As for swimming, the island has few beaches, you will thus have to go to the Split in the Northern part of Caulker or embark for Koko King, the only real beach of the island. There are shuttles that will take you there in 5 minutes. Restaurants, pools and many deckchairs and swings await you. A must to relax.

• Day 10 : Beach day to Secret Beach

Go to the northern part of the island with a golf cart to relax on Secret Beach.

The most “famous” of all secret beaches.

A perfect paradise to relax in; Secret Beach offers a peaceful haven where you will be able to enjoy a quiet day far away from the crowd.

Crystal blue waters and a fine sand beach are on the menu today.

There, you will find : bar-restaurants and many water activities such as : kayak, paddle, canoe, pedal boats and floating mattresses.
