  • Day 1 : Immediate trip to San Ignacio

When you arrive at Belize City airport, you will be warmly welcomed by a driver who will wait for you and  drive you to San Ignacio in Cayo.

During your trip, you will already be able to get a sense of the country’s atmosphere.

  • Day 2 : Visit of the ancient city of Caracol

After breakfast, you will leave for the ancient Mayan city of Caracol located in the Chiquibul reserve (it’s the biggest Mayan site in Belize).

This immense city, discovered in the 1930s, derives its name from the presence of a great number of snail shells on site.

  • Day 3 : Actun Tunichil Muknal  ‘ATM’ cave

After your breakfast, you will leave for the day to the ATM site. You will have to cross three rivers before you reach the caves. Then, swimming, climbing and hiking await you to access the underground Mayan world better known as Xibalba. You will discover there ancient Mayan offerings and even remains of human sacrifices.

Beware, being in good physical condition is absolutely necessary for this visit.

You will return around 3 to 4 PM and have free time to discover the city center in San Ignacio.

  • Day 4 : Excursion in the Mayan ruins

After breakfast, you will leave for the archaeological site of Xunantunich located west of San Ignacio. You will visit this extraordinary ancient city overlooking the forest. Then, you will be en route to Placencia, renowned for its white sand beaches.

Placencia is a paradise for snorkeling and scuba-diving aficionados that come here to enjoy the second biggest barrier reef in the world.

  • Day 5 : Free time for the day

Only 10 min away from your hotel, you can discover the village of Placencia.

This village possesses the narrowest street in the world (see Guinness Book).  It goes through the entire village. You will find there all the shops, restaurants, and a direct access to the bars on the beach.

You will observe hummingbirds and will be able to jump in the water to discover the depths of the sea.

Note : between April and July, it will be possible to swim with the whale sharks (migration season)

  • Day 6 : Hiking in the Cockscomb Sanctuary reserve or Excursion on the Monkey River 

Option 1

The Cockscomb Sanctuary was created in 1986 to help preserve the jaguar population in the region. You will hike in the reserve to observe the local fauna and flora. Numerous birds, armadillos and several species of felines live there.

During this excursion you will stop at one of the reserve’s waterfalls and you will have the option to swim in the natural pools.

Option 2

After breakfast, you will head to Monkey River. It is a small, peaceful village with a population of 200 surrounded by millennial forests. An ideal outing to discover the Belizean jungle and take advantage of the river to discover the wildlife and plant life. Prepare your camera as the chances of seeing many animals are significant. You will stop for a hike in the jungle. Your guide will tell you about medicinal plants and the many categories of flowers. If you are lucky, you will be able to see a deer, an armadillo or even a jaguar.

  • Day 7 : Going to Caye Caulker

After breakfast, You will take a shuttle to go to Placencia airport, heading to Caye Caulker.

Take the time to explore this island on foot or by bike. During a walk, you will discover pretty sights : wood cabins painted purple, a restaurant with a pelican as its logo, an entirely pink house…

You will also be able to observe seahorses at Iguana Reef. This small reserve is close to the pier. Access is free and this reserve will delight adults and children alike.

To go a little further, embark for Koko King, the great beach of Caye Caulker located on the other side of the Split. It is accessible through a free shuttle. In 5 minutes, you will be there : the perfect place to relax and tan.

  • Day 8 : Excursion in Hol Chan reserve

In the morning, exploration of the barrier reef during a diving session with flippers, mask and snorkel. You will discover many sea animals : turtles, parrot fish and nurse sharks. The reserve is located 8 km to the south of Caye Caulker’s shores and its most popular area is called Hol Chan or “small channel” in Mayan – a real aquarium in the open air. The second area you will explore is the Shark Ray Alley reserve: there, nurse sharks and pelagic stingrays abound.

You have free time in the afternoon to enjoy the quietness of the island and the sun.

  • Day 9 : Flying over Great Blue Hole

The Must : you must do it absolutely!
After your breakfast or after your lunch, you will embark on a small, 11-seats Tropic Air plane and will fly towards the South to the historical city of St George Caye, then you will fly to the East to Turneffe Atoll, Half Moon Caye, Lighthouse Reef and at last the Great Blue Hole. You will fly several times over this natural treasure before going back by flying over the city of San Pedro.
